Whether you live spiritually or believe scientifically, it is hard to deny the perfection of balance and efficiency that the design of the human body represents. The Bible states, “God puts our bodies together in such a way that even the parts that seem least important are valuable. He did this to make all parts of the body work together smoothly, with each part caring about the others. If one part of our body hurts, we hurt all over. If one part of our body is honored, the whole body will be happy.” Corinthians I 24-26. Some of the very first scientists and philosophers recognize the existence of the golden ratio in the human body, the presence of 5 limbs, 5 appendages on each limb, 5 openings in the face, 5 organs for sensory perception. They compare the body to a complex math equation, perfectly solved. Our bodies, in most instances, start out perfectly formed, healthy and balanced.
You hear about people getting cancer every day. Sometimes it’s a co-worker, sometimes it’s the parent of a friend, and in really heart wrenching circumstances, it might be a child.
The question that I have asked myself many times is “what would I do if it were my parent, what would I do if it were my wife, what would I do if it were my child?” It’s a frightening scenario to push your imagination into, but an important one, because there is so much information out there and even more misinformation.
If a health crisis arises, I want to be informed enough to work with doctors and health practitioners to devise a plan. Not simply succumb to the chemo, surgery route. And taking that one step further, why isn’t there a health team teaching my family and I how to prevent cancer in the first place? In this technologically advanced world, why is preventative health care still in the dark ages?
